[ He finishes his fist slice in a few bites, wiping his hand on his jeans. Arm around Mal's shoulder, cuddled up next to him? Yeah, he's happy. ]

I mean the premise of putting a movie on is just so there's something to make out to. Usually.

...What? [That was--that was out of the blue.] Uh. I, ah. I'd have to think about that one. Hm. There were some nice ones. Maybe one of the many trips to the sea. I've never really thought about it before...

Alright then. [ He rubs his thumb in a loose circle around Mal's shoulder, thinking of something else. ] Craziest thing you've ever done, back home. Bar story does not count that was a crazy thing that was done TO you.

Well, there was setting charges throughout the giant superweapon poised to destroy Earth, but that was much more the Captain's doing rather than mine. Risk my hide by disobeying orders to save my friend while trapped on a remotely telepathically controlled ship? Hm, no, had to get him out of a room filling with radiation, wasn't terribly much choice. Taking a shuttle with T'Pol in the middle of the night undetected to go where we weren't supposed to without telling the captain so we could save my friend and her boyfriend. Possibly that one?

Those all count as- yeah. Pretty damn crazy. [ And all for someone else's benefit. Not at all the bullshit he pulled while not entirely in his right mind. It draws a better picture of how Malcolm's just...better than he is at being a good person. And that's kind of nice. A little intimidating, but nice. That Malcolm doesn't think anything of it is a little weird, though. ] So basically you're a big damn sneaky hero.

Hardly. But I'm flattered you think so. Only trying to do what I felt was right.

Kicking ass, taking names, yeah Mal, that's being a big damn hero. [ Good to see his type is still, well, his type. Curt heroic people. ]

But you stepped up. That's the thing here. [ He churls his arm tighter around Malcolm for a second, a one armed squeeze. ] You really don't think much of that at all, do you?

I do my job. I've gotten more liberal with interpreting or ignoring orders, though not as much as some. The last one was much more selfish on my part, but he was also doing good work behind the scenes of the war.

You've never really talked about the war. Who were we up against?

A race of aliens who were secretive, territorial expansionists. And it took a united front to take them down. No easy task in the rocky-at-best political climate.
