That what? ...Ah. Well, we'd moved on from that, so I haven't exactly been thinking on it. I suppose one time going down to Portland Harbour was nice. Sailing, Royal Navy history, bit of a roadtrip.

Tell me about it? You can do better than that, Mal.

[ Just gonna scootch a little closer, rest his other hand on Malcolm's knee. See? He's interested. ]

[Good lord, if they get any closer, someone's going to end up in the other's lap. He clears his throat and glances away in awkward memory. Right. Talking about himself. Totally easy, right?]

Well, er, I guess I can put in more detail. My grandfather took me and my father down to Portland Harbour in Dorset, a good place for sailing--national sailing team and all--and a rich history from an old though long defunct Royal Navy facility. Wreck diving, nice bit of touristry without feeling tourist-y, that sort of thing. So that's what we did, sailing around, and visiting some of the buildings and walking around while grandfather talked on and on about the naval history of the area.

[ Little bit closer. Little bit closer, Knee to knee and- well that does sound really nice. He and his family never had time for those kinds of trips but it sounds like a lot of fun. ]

Wreck diving?

Oh, we didn't do that. It's just an option there. I was too young for that sort of thing.

What is that? I've never heard of it before.

You dive around wrecks. Shipwrecks. Get some history on the ships, see the way life has adapted to something like that sitting on the seabed, explore a bit.

Huh. That sounds pretty awesome. What kind of boat did you guys sail around in?

[ Gonna slowly curl an arm around Malcolm's waist and just settle there, tucked close and cozy. ]

Oh, I don't even remember anymore. Probably just a sloop, a very common sailboat. More than enough room for the three of us.

I can honestly say I've never been sailing. What's it like?

[ See this? This is good. This is cozy and easy and not at all strange or threatening. ]

Well, it's...I'm not sure how to describe it to someone who's never been. It's sailing. It's letting the wind power your boat? So it's very...breezy and active so you don't go running ashore or into anyone.

[goddamngrenades]

I'd say we should go sometime but I don't think that can be a thing here. [ No access to an ocean. No boats. Still it's a nice thought, watching Mal run around manning the ship. It must be twice as simple and four times as complicated as running a space ship. ] You know what, Mal?

...No, I don't think so. [He's not even thinking of the lack of proper sailing water, he's just thinking of how horrifyingly frightened he'd be]

You, [ He murmurs, leaning in to nuzzle the side of his neck. ] Have made me happy. And you weren't bad at it at all.

Oh. Well. That's good, then. Doesn't take much, does it?

I am a man of simple needs.

[ One of those needs is a cheek kiss. That's okay, right? that's fine. ]

[Also fine!] I just mean that when it comes to me making you happy, it doesn't take much of anything. Must be like pulling teeth, getting anything out of me.

I think I'm figuring it out. Sailing. Naval history. Black tea. Competent and not impulsive choices in missions. Taking your background into consideration for the suit got me points. [ Jaw > throat? Jaw throat. Little dry pecks of a kiss. ]
